Windows Vista - The OS awaited for a long time and now….

Overview

When I discussed with many of my friends, the first talk would be “SLOW”. But to me its up to you to have it slow of fast. If you need speed and perfomance, at anytime you can disable some of the visuals like Gloss, Animation n stuff. On the other site you could also compromise the perfomance withe the visuals.

The User Interface has bought us to a new world of interaction and I hope this is the right way of doing it. Its the same experience when we were using OS like Win 2000 or 98 and we found a drastic change in the UI in Win XP.

I took a look at Vista on my laptop ( Intel Centrino Duo 1.66Ghz, 1.5GB Ram…… ) and I never found a problem with speed of the perfomance with the best visuals enabled and the fact is that I run huge apps like Photoshop, 3DS Max and a lot of others…

Media Center

One of the best feature I like in Vista. Media Center comes with the Vista Ultimate Edition and its a 100 times better that the XP Media Center edition. I love this and now I organise all my Music, Videos, Pictures n lots here. I know its a bit slow but even here I compromise with the Visuals. This is one of the best media experience I have ever seen.

Switch between Applications

The “Switching between applications” is a super cool feature. Vista generates a realtime and a virtual 3D perspective and show the running apps.

The sidebar is also one nice feature which avoids the use of external widget engines. I know that there are better resources out there but to me, as time goes… these sidebar gadgets will keep growing.

Look and Feel

I cant say which is better Windows Vista or Mac OS. I love both of them, but MAC is towards Blue and White gloss whereas Vista is towards Black gloss. Every window that appears or hides has a cool fading effect.

But I love vista because of its Animations, Effects, Shadows, Glow, Transparency and lot more…

Vector Icons

I cant keep mentioning “The Best Feature is” and so on cos everything I find here is …. Anyways Vista comes with Vector Icons enabling us to view icons at the highest quality and at the highest resolution.

Rich Apps

Viista has cool build-in apps like “Windows Photo Gallery” and “Windows Media Player” to well organise Media. A lot more apps like”Windows Calendar, Mail, Contacts, Meeting n Live Messenger” are cool simple apps to have ourselves more organised and simplify out tasks.

Security

I have heard a lot of Issues over the security of Vista. Lot lot of them… and when I use Vista I dint feel it so insecure. The User Control is cool enabling an admin prompt at most of the times. I disabled this cos everything I did… and I had to confirm that I am the admin.

Compatibility

9 of 10 Apps were compatible with Vista. And the rest of them…. If I am not able to successfully install an app, Vista prompts me with the below options and when I choose “Reinstall with Recomended Settings” it worked.. I mean I could install the app. I think vista sets the compatibility of the app to XP or so and then install the app… I like this too

This trend of Web 2.0 had encouraged a lot of online applications and services. But imagine an app like “Adobe Photoshop” to get online.

I love this idea and I think Adobe has taken the right path towards it. Adobe is coming up with the online version of Photoshop… and guess what! this is a FREE service.

I am sure its not going to be the same huge app as on the desktop…. maybe it would be a lite version of it. But imagine - the desktop version of Photoshop eats up a lot of memory and think of the online version. This could only be possible on a high speed internet.
